HC Deb 05 March 1906 vol 153 cc82-3
MR. LAIDLAW (Renfrewshire, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he will give an assurance that the experts now engaged in the Government of India's investigation into spirituous liquors manufactured in India †(See 4) Debates, clii., 1126. shall be allowed to complete their work without being restricted by a time limit.

MR. JOHN MORLEY

When the investigation was undertaken in 1904 it was thought that it could be completed within a period of nine months. There is reason to believe that it may be completed very speedily. The Government must have full discretion allowed to them, and I fear I can give no assurance.
