HC Deb 05 March 1906 vol 153 c75
SIR H.COTTON (Nottingham, E.)

To ask the Secretary of State for India what is the amount of the sanctioned estimate of cost of the scheme of the Commander in Chief in India for reorganising and redistributing the Indian Army on the North-West frontier, and the amount it is proposed to spend annually on this object.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.) The total cost of the reorganisation scheme sanctioned by my predecessor cannot yet be given with accuracy, but it is estimated at 1,300 lakhs of rupees. It was proposed to spend annually about 300 lakhs on reorganisation, including, besides the Commander-in-Chief's scheme, certain other special measures, independently sanctioned, which will cost in all about 300 lakhs. The matter is under further consideration.
