To ask the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies whether further recruitment of labour from British Central Africa for the mines of the Transvaal has been prohibited.

(Answered by Mr. Churchill). The present position of the matter is as described at page 44 of Cd. 2819. Recruiting ceased on 31st January, and will not be resumed unless the mortality Returns for the year ending 30th June, 1906, show marked improvement.
