HC Deb 28 June 1906 vol 159 c1104
MR. DUFFY

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the death rate from consumption has risen from 19 to 25 per 10,000 of the population in Ireland within the course of the past few years, while in England it has fallen from 24 to 12 per 10,000 of the population; and whether in view of the fact that 14,000 of our people are doomed to die of this disease in 1907, he will advise the Government to take such steps as may be deemed necessary to stop the ravages of this insidious but preventable disease.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) I beg to refer to my reply to a similar Question put by the hon. Member for West Cavan on Tuesday last,‡ which has probably escaped the hon. Member's notice. The Question is engaging the close attention of the Irish Government, who will do all they can to check the evil.
