HC Deb 27 June 1906 vol 159 c916
MR. GROVE (Northamptonshire, S.)

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that, on the death of a trustee in the Transvaal of English domicile, succession and estate duty is levied, although no change in the beneficial enjoyment of the property is involved; and whether he will take steps to bring about an alteration in the laws affecting trusts, and so remove the disabilities under which English subjects holding property in the Transvaal suffer.

(Answered by Mr. Churchill.) I believe that it is the practice in the Transvaal to levy duty in the circumstances described by the hon. Member. I will communicate with the Governor upon the matter.
