HC Deb 26 June 1906 vol 159 cc761-2
MR. VINCENT KENNEDY (Cavan,W.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he will say why Hugh Heavy, of Tullyvilla, Curlough, county Cavan, a tenant on the estate of David Finlay, deceased, in the Land Judge's Court, has had his purchase application refused by the Land Commission; will he say what is the area of this tenant's holding; and whether he will be offered an opportunity for purchasing the holding, which has been in his possession for the past fifteen years.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) I am informed by the Registrar of the Land Judge's Court that Hugh Heavy has already purchased the holding comprising. L0¾ acres on the Finlay estate, of which he was tenant. Heavy was also subtenant of 2¾ acres of land, of which, in order to facilitate the sale of the estate, he was made direct tenant. He has, however, declined to purchase this portion unless there is included in it certain land upon which he is stated to have encroached. The suggestion that Heavy's purchase application has been refused by the Land Commission appears to be founded upon a misapprehension.
