BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether, with a view to the safety of His Majesty's ships and their crews, the Admiralty hold the Commander-in-Chief of a station responsible that cases of defective vision on the part of officers commanding ships are reported to the Admiralty; and whether the officer commanding a ship is in a similar manner held responsible in the case of his officers.
§ THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. EDMUND ROBERTSON,) DundeeIt is naturally the duty of Commanders-in-Chief and Commanding Officers of ships to report any circumstances affecting the capacity of an officer to perform the duties for which he is responsible, but it has not been considered necessary to specify any particular defect as calling for a special report.
