HC Deb 21 June 1906 vol 159 cc355-6
* MR. MORTON (Sutherland)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families' Association refuse to admit the widows and daughters of officers, who have risen from the ranks, to the houses for officers' widows and daughters at Wimbledon; and will he say whether the association is supported out of regimental funds.

* MR. HALDANE

The funds of the officers' branch of this association are not supported by regimental subscriptions, and the War Office has no hand in their administration.

* MR. MORTON

But is the statement as to the widows and daughters of officers who have risen from the ranks correct?

* MR. HALDANE

I do not know. I am not responsible for the association. It is a private organisation. We do not contribute anything to it.
