I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the fact that, in the week ending 17th June, the following list of crimes and results of crimes committed by Chinese were recorded, viz., two hanged for murder, two tried for keeping a disorderly house in which white women resided, one shot dead while attempting to break into a house in the Heidelburg district, robbery of a house in Rossetenville, a suburb of Johannesburg, where the owner and his wife were † See (4) Debates, clix., 168. maltreated and threatened; and what action, if any, he proposes to take to prevent such occurrences.
