HC Deb 20 June 1906 vol 159 cc155-6
MR. VERNEY (Buckinghamshire, N.)

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make investigations as to the translation into Chinese of the recent repatriation proclamation in South Africa, and will he have any inaccuracies rectified in England; will he, in case any further proclamation is issued which has to be translated, have that translation made in this country by those who can be trusted to do it accurately; and whether he will take means-to secure that the authorised Chinese version, and none other, shall be used.

(Answered by Mr. Churchill.) Inquiry will be made as to the variation between the recent translation of the proclamation and the terms as read by me to the House.
