HC Deb 19 June 1906 vol 159 c37
MR. J. WARD (Stoke-on-Trent)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the Bill recently introduced in the Jersey States Assembly, prohibiting under severe penalties the use of trading stamps as an unfair means of trading; and whether, in view of the danger of intimidation of small traders arising from the use of trading stamps in this country, he will consider the advisability of introducing similar legislation for the United Kingdom.

* THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. GLADSTONE, Leeds, W.)

I regret that I do not see my way to introduce legislation of the nature suggested by the hon. Member. The Régiement passed by the States of Jersey in February last did not become law, and the question is still under their consideration.

MR. J. WARD

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that the States Assembly in Jersey has introduced still more stringent legislation on this subject?

* MR. GLADSTONE

I am not aware. I have no information as to that.

MR. J. WARD

I will send some to the right hon. Gentleman.
