HC Deb 19 June 1906 vol 159 c36
MR. SLOAN

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether, in view of the unanimous approval of the Opium Resolution by this House, † he can state what action, if any, he proposes to take in the matter.

* THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. JOHN ELLIS,) Nottinghamshire, Rushcliffe

In speaking on the Resolution referred to, the Secretary of State said His Majesty's Minister it Peking would very shortly be in this country, and we should then be able to learn from him exactly how the proposals and disposition of the Chinese Government stand.‡ The Minister is not yet in this country.

MR. SLOAN

Will the result of the-investigation, when made, be at once made known to the House?

* MR. JOHN ELLIS

I cannot make any statement of that kind.
