HC Deb 19 June 1906 vol 159 cc53-4
MR. BOLAND

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that, under the new scheme for the teaching of Irish, the services of a large number of extern teachers, teaching a much larger number of schools, have been put an end to and rejected by the new scheme and nothing is done to supply their place; and that as regards the teaching of Irish on the bilingual system, the Irish public are still in the dark as to what is proposed; and whether he proposes to secure the alteration of the scheme in the manner requested by the Gaelic League.

MR. BRYCE

The question whether it may be necessary or desirable to permit the employment of extern teachers under the new scheme for the teaching of Irish is under consideration, and so is the scheme for bilingual instruction. I am not at present in a position to make a statement upon these matters.
