MACKARNESSI beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Government have received from Natal any official news of the death of the chief Bambaata; and whether, if they have, they will use their good offices with the Government of the Colony with a view to their facilitating a return of the natives to their allegiance.
§ MR. CHURCHILLThe Secretary of State received a telegram from the Governor last Friday stating that Bambaata was killed in the fight on the 10th, and that his body was identified by his brother and many others. The Government of Natal is as deeply concerned as His Majesty's Government or the hon. Member himself to bring to an end a state of disorder and unrest which daily imposes upon the Colony a very heavy financial burden, and causes widespread anxiety and dislocation in all classes of society.
