HC Deb 11 June 1906 vol 158 c703
SIR GILBERT PARKER

On behalf of the hon. Member for Hoxton, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any information pointing to the fact that a society or societies exist in order to provide alien immigrants, on loan or otherwise, with the necessary funds to enable them to comply with the requirements of the Aliens Act.

*MR. GLADSTONE

I have reason to believe that the practice of furnishing an immigrant with money for this purpose does obtain in some cases. But I may point out that if the immigration officer has any reason to believe that the money produced to him by an immigrant is not the immigrant's own bona fide property he has instructions not to accept it as proof of means.
