HC Deb 27 July 1906 vol 162 cc62-3
MR. SLOAN (Belfast, S.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Wicklow Harbour Board recently invited tenders in connection with Wicklow. Harbour and foreshore works; that notwithstanding the fact that the lowest tender came from the only Irish firm who competed for the work, the Commissioners decided to have the work done by an English firm at the higher price; and if he can explain why this work had to be executed outside Ireland.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) The Irish Government has no responsibility as regards the contract for the works referred to, the matter being entirely one for the Harbour Board. If the hon. Member desires information upon the subject he should seek it from the Harbour Commissioners.
