HC Deb 12 July 1906 vol 160 c1037
MR. LEA

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether he wilt issue an order to the Army that, in future, in time of peace, no British soldier condemned to death shall be executed in public, and that no soldiers shall be forced to witness such executions, thus making the Military authorities conform to the same practice as prevails with our civil authorities at home.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) The points raised in the Question are now receiving careful consideration. Personally, I am in sympathy with the suggestion, but I must make careful inquiry, especially in India, before any conclusion can be come to on this grave matter.
