§ MR. FIELDTo ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he can give the number of second division clerks who were appointed temporarily during the last five years in the first instance to Irish Government Departments; and whether he can give the number of these second division clerks that were afterwards made permanent in the Departments to which they were originally assigned for temporary duty.
(Answered by Mr. McKenna.) During the period July 1st, 1901, to June 30th, 1906, I am informed the forty-four second division clerks were assigned for temporary duty in Irish Government Departments. Of these, twelve were afterwards made permanent in the Departments to which they were originally assigned.
