HC Deb 04 July 1906 vol 160 c11
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

To ask the Secretary of State for India, in view of the recent disturbances at Barisal, if he will state whether he has yet come to a decision as to the advisability of terminating the existing union of executive and judicial functions in the same person; and will he state what steps he proposes to take to ensure the better administration of law in India.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.) As I promised in answer to a Question on May 24th, † I have drawn the attention of the Government of India to the subject of the separation of executive and judicial functions, and I propose to await their reply. The hon. Member may rest assured that any measures for improving the administration of the law in India are receiving full consideration, but I cannot at present make any statement on the subject. See (4) Debates, clvii., 1415.
