§ MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)To ask the Secretary of State for India, in view of the recent disturbances at Barisal, if he will state whether he has yet come to a decision as to the advisability of terminating the existing union of executive and judicial functions in the same person; and will he state what steps he proposes to take to ensure the better administration of law in India.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.) As I promised in answer to a Question on May 24th, † I have drawn the attention of the Government of India to the subject of the separation of executive and judicial functions, and I propose to await their reply. The hon. Member may rest assured that any measures for improving the administration of the law in India are receiving full consideration, but I cannot at present make any statement on the subject.
