HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 cc1409-10
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any information as to recent military operations against natives in Nigeria; and whether the unrest is due to the circulation of seditious, matter among the Mussulman population.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Secretary of State has received full reports from Sir Frederic Lugard as to the recent military operations near Sokoto and at Hadeija in Northern Nigeria. There is no reason to suppose that the hostile attitude of certain sections of the Mussulman population was due to the circulation of seditious matter. No other military operations have taken place recently in parts of Nigeria where the population is Mussulman.
