HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 c1421
SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been called to the Report of the Select Committe of 1897 on the operation of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, and to the unanimous recommendation that the definite words—made in— — —required by the 16th section of that Act, operated as a gratuitous advertisement of our foreign rivals in a particular country, and should be replaced either by the word imported or foreign; and, in such case, if the Government will introduce a short measure to give effect to such recommendation, or support the Bill introduced by the hon. Member for Central Sheffield with that object.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

I am fully aware of the Report in question, but there is no intention of introducing amending legislation at present. Any Private Bill brought in to give effect to the recommendation of the Committee would receive the sympathetic consideration of His Majesty's Government.
