HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 c1422
MR. COX (Preston)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to the way in which landowners in various parts of the country, and especially in the county of Kent, are in the habit of annexing roadside strips; and whether he will take steps to call the attention of rural district councils to the matter, and to their duty under the law.

MR JOHN BURNS

I do not find that representations have been made to me on this subject, though I am aware that sometimes attempts to make encroachments of the kind referred to are made. I have not at present any reason to suppose that rural district councils are ignorant of their powers and duties in the matter, and in the absence of further information to show that such is the case, it does not seem tome necessary to call, their attention to them.
