HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 cc1396-7
MR. WALTER LONG

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is in a position to make a statement with respect to the extensions of the Cavan and Leitrim railway, for which provision was made in the Vote for the Ireland Development Grant of 1905–6.

(Answered by Mr. Bryce.) I understand that progress in this matter has been interrupted by local opposition, which has manifested itself in an expressed intention on the part of the County Council to oppose the necessary legislation to be promoted by the railway company. In these circumstances the Government, while regretting the interruption in the progress of what they regard as a useful scheme, are unable to interfere.
