HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 cc1418-9
MR. BARRAN (Leeds, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that some limited companies have not filed Returns ordered under The Companies Act, 25 and 26 Vic., c. 89, part 2, since 1894, although bringing themselves under a penalty of £5 per day by failing to do so; and whether he will take steps to compel these companies to comply with the provisions of the Act.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

The Board of Trade make every effort to enforce the regular filing with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies of all the returns ordered under the Companies Acts. I do not know of any cases of default such as those referred to by my hon. friend, but if he will give me any instance of which he has knowledge I will make enquiries.

MR. BARRAN

If I prove the general register is defective in some cases, will the right hon. Gentleman see that it is brought up to date as a whole?

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

I will inquire into any cases brought to my notice.

MR. BARRAN

The right hon. Gentleman does not appreciate my point. I shall prove it is defective in some cases, and I want to know if the right hon. Gentleman will see that all defects are remedied.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

I will inquire.
