HC Deb 02 July 1906 vol 159 c1428
MR. CLAUDE HAY (Shoreditch, Hoxton)

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether it has been decided that the removal of the premises now occupied in Charing Cross and Spring Gardens by the Phoenix Fire Office, the Union Assurance Company, the Liverpool, London and Globe Insurance Company, the Architects' Department of the London County Council, Messrs. Hobgood and Dowson, is necessary to complete the opening of the Mall to Charing Cross; and, if so, when the buildings were purchased, and by whom, and if not purchased when they will be purchased, and by whom.

* THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. HARCOUKT,) Lancashire, 1429 N.E., Rossendale

I have not heard of any decision such as the hon. Member suggests; nor do I know whether the owners of these houses wish to sell them, or to whom.

MR. CLAUDE HAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman state whether he proposes to take any legislative power?

* MR. HARCOURT

No, Sir.
