HC Deb 04 December 1906 vol 166 cc755-6

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, if he can say, approximately, what income arises from the official receivership of the Merthyr district; and whether, in view of the practice during the past five or ten years to fill vacancies occurring among the official receivers by appointing only members of the legal profession or persons having special knowledge of, or experience in the administration of the Bankruptcy Laws, he will explain why, in making the recent appointment, he selected a gentleman who had been connected with the Press at Carnarvon before he took up hi? present position of manager and editor of the Brecon and Radnor Express.

The late official receiver in this district was paid by fees, the gross amount of which varied very widely from year to year, from £600 to £1,800. I have no information as to his office expenditure, and am therefore unable to estimate the net income. As regards the last part of the Question I do not think I can add anything to the reply given by me to my hon. friend on Wednesday last.†

Has any decision been come to as to where the head office is to be?

No, the chief inspector is still looking into the matter.
