THORNEI beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he will at once consider the advisability of making a substantial grant from the Government's grant of £200,000 to the West Ham Distress Committee, in consequence of the poverty in the borough caused by the want of employment.
§ MR. JOHN BURNSI am giving consideration to the subject of the distribution of the grant, but I am not at present in a position to make a payment to any particular distress committee.
