HC Deb 01 August 1906 vol 162 c1038
MR. BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether he can give an authoritative denial to the report that the newly appointed commander of Portsmouth naval barracks had intimated to the canteen committee his intention to override their considered and unanimous decision in regard to a matter intimately connected with the canteen funds; and whether this officer merely intimated to the canteen committee that he reserved to himself the right to submit a report to his superior officer on a decision of the Committee which appeared to him against the financial interests of the canteen.

(Answered by Mr. Edmund Robertson.) There is no foundation whatever for the report that any attempt has been made to override the decision of the Portsmouth Canteen Committee in any respect.
