§ MR. TUFF (Rochester)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the recent accidental shooting of a fisherman (George Thomas Gilson) by the Royal 1237 Garrison Artillery off Sheerness; if so, what steps he proposes to take to prevent the possibility of such accidents in the future; and whether compensation will be made to the widow.
§ MR. ARNOLD-FORSTERA report of this case has been forwarded to the War Office by the General Officer Commanding concerned, who stated that he had issued orders to give a longer safety range during practice with one inch aiming rifles. The question of the length of safety range which should in future be fixed for such practice will receive careful consideration. As regards compensation, the question of an award as an act of grace is being considered.
