HC Deb 23 May 1905 vol 146 cc1112-3
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

To ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that Miss Haines was appointed a pupil teacher by the Peterhead Burgh School Board in the month of July last, and commenced her duties in the following September, but has recently been informed that her appointment cannot be confirmed until it can be certified that she has been successfully vaccinated; and will he explain why this rule has been imposed.

(Answered by Mr. Scott Dickson.) It is the fact that in accordance with a general rule to that effect the Department have refused to confirm Miss Haines' appointment on the ground that she has not been vaccinated. The rule was imposed in the interests of the health of the children.
