HC Deb 08 May 1905 vol 145 c1128
MR. BRIGHT (Shropshire, Oswestry)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now state what is likely to be the annual cost of administering the Aliens Bill.

MR. AKERS-DOUGLAS

It is obvious that any estimate that can be framed at the present time must be to a great extent conjectural. I have, however, prepared an estimate of the probable cost of administration, confining it to the provisions for preventing the immigration of undesirables, since it is impossible to forecast the expenses of expelling alien criminals, etc. This shows an annual expenditure of £24,000.

MR. LOUGH (Islington, W.)

A year.

MR. AKERS-DOUGLAS

Yes.
