HC Deb 04 May 1905 vol 145 cc915-6
MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, under the new Transvaal Constitution, it will be possible for the Legislative Assembly to pass a law, similar to the Australian Immigration Act, whereby working men belonging to the United Kingdom may be excluded from the Colony.

MR. LYTTELTON

Any legislation elating to immigration would, of course, be subject to the ordinary power of disallowance belonging to the Crown.

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON

Will t be exercised in the case I have mentioned?

MR. LYTTELTON

I am not going to an hypothesis of that kind.
