HC Deb 03 May 1905 vol 145 c820
MR. NOLAN (Louth, S.)

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he proposes to introduce any measures to facilitate the importation of West Indian patent-still spirit into the United Kingdom for industrial purposes; and whether he has any intention of removing the extra duty of 4d. per gallon paid upon same.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

It is not proposed to introduce any measure giving preferential treatment to West Indian spirit. But if the proposals of the Industrial Alcohol Committee are adopted by Parliament, spirit from the West Indies will derive a substantial benefit from the new arrangements, in common with all other spirit, whether imported or home-made.

MR. GIBSON BOWLES

When will the Bill be brought in?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

As soon as it is ready. It is now being prepared.
