HC Deb 29 March 1905 vol 143 c1515
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

To ask the Postmaster-General if he has received a petition signed by over 6,000 London postmen protesting against the proposed alteration of their pay day from Saturday to Friday; and, if so, is he now prepared to alter his decision and retain Saturday as the official pay day.

(Answered by Lord Stanley.) I have received petitions upon the subject from a large number of the London postmen, and they have been informed of my decision. I am satisfied that it is desirable to change the pay day from Saturday to Friday. In order to avoid inconvenience long notice was given of the change, and an advance of pay will be made to any officer who requires temporary assistance.
