I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the ill-treatment of the aborigines of Western Australia, as disclosed in the Report of the Royal Commission; and whether he proposes to take any steps to remedy this state of things.

I have just received the Report referred to, which is dated December 29th last. As I stated in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for East Cork on March 1st†, I understand that legislation will shortly be introduced in Western Australia dealing with the abuses disclosed in the Report. I have asked the Governor to † See (4) Debates, cxlii., 10 inform me as soon as possible what action his Ministers propose to take in the matter.
