able, owing to their proximity to the mainland, to communicate with the shore on clear nights by means of special signalling lamps provided for the purpose. Communication from the Longships can also be made by day by semaphore or explosive rocket, and by night by explosive rocket. As the hon. Member is aware, communication by wireless telegraphy is about to be established between six lightships and the shore, and if the experiment is found to be successful the system will, no doubt, be extended to other outlying light-stations.
