MR. PATRICK O'BRIENOn behalf of the hon. Member for West Waterford, I beg to ask Mr. Attorney-General for Ireland whether he is aware that the Inland Revenue assess stamp duty on all transfers of land purchased under the Purchase of Land (Ireland) Acts, or under the Land Act of 1903, not only on the money consideration paid by the transferee but on the entire amount of the outstanding portion of the advance to the purchasing tenant by the Land Commission or the Estates Commissioners; and whether, in view of the additional charge thus imposed on all transfers of purchased land, he will take steps, by legislation or otherwise, to limit the charge to the amount paid by the transferee.
