NANNETTI (Dublin, College Green)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he will explain why the Dublin Tramways Company levy full fares for children under twelve years of age; and whether the Commissioners of the Dublin Police regularly supervise the due observance of the by-law prohibiting overcrowding of passengers on tramway cars plying within the Dublin metropolitan district.
§ MR. WALTER LONGThe Company's by-laws exempt passengers from paying for children in arms under three years of age. I am not aware of any statutory provision which prohibits the levy of full fares for children under twelve. The police are instructed to enforce the by-law prohibiting over-crowding, and prosecutions are instituted when offences are detected.
