HC Deb 21 March 1905 vol 143 c659
MR. CLANCY (Dublin County, N.)

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney-General for Ireland whether he is aware that the recent revaluation of Belfast does not include that of a number of hereditaments estimated at a value of so much as £100,000; whether he informed a deputation from Belfast City Council some time since, that a Bill to repair the effects of this omission had been drafted by direction of the Commissioner of Valuation; and, if so, what are the intentions of the Government in regard to that measure; and whether, pending the rectification of the omission referred to, if such omission has occurred, he will take steps to prevent the partial revaluation of Belfast becoming operative.

THE ATTOENEY-GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. ATKINSON,) Londonderry, N.

A draft Bill has been prepared by the Commissioner of Valuation, and will immediately receive the attention of my right hon. friend. I cannot state the precise day on which it will be introduced. I see no reason at present to suspend the coming into force of the general revaluation pending the passing of the Bill, but I will communicate with the Commissioner on the subject.

MR. CLANCY

Does not the intention to introduce the Bill prove the existing injustice. Ought not the partial revaluation to be suspended?

MR. ATKINSON

No, Sir.
