HC Deb 13 March 1905 vol 142 cc1172-3
SIR GILBERT PARKER (Gravesend)

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if the Government have any information concerning troubles in the Bahr-el-Ghazal with the Azande tribe; and whether the Azandes are receiving, or have received, supplies of quick-firing rifles and ammunition through the territory of the Congo Free State.

(Answered by Earl Percy.) The hon. Member presumably refers to the Niam-Niam tribe in the Azandi country. A patrol sent through that country by the Soudanese Government has encountered slight opposition from the chief of the tribe, but the matter does not appear of any material importance. As regards the second paragraph of the Question. we have received no such information.
