HC Deb 09 March 1905 vol 142 cc910-1
MR. CHARLES HOBHOUSE (Bristol, E.)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the post of chief telegraph superintendent has been vacant at Bristol since February, 1904; and, if so, whether, in view of the recommendation of the Tweedmouth Committee that vacant superior appointments should be filled without delay, and the stoppage of promotion in the Telegraph Department, he will direct that the necessary appointment be made speedily.

(Answered by Lord Stanley.) The vacancy is not an ordinary one, but is caused by the creation of a new and important appointment. Matters relating to the telegraph department at Bristol have required special consideration, and I have not yet been in a position to select a thoroughly suitable officer to fill the vacancy, but I hope to be able to do so very shortly,
