§ DR. MACNAMARA (Camberwell, N.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that five Chinese coolies have each been sentenced to six months hard labour and eleven others each to three months hard labour in connection with a riot at the Simmer and Jack Mine on January 21st; whether the prisoners were represented at the trial by counsel or in any other way; and whether the proceedings were explained to them by interpreter; and, if he has no information on these matters, whether he will obtain the same from Lord Milner.
