HC Deb 07 March 1905 vol 142 c558
MR. SLOAN (Belfast, S.)

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that the expenditure for professors and teachers of special subjects in connection with model schools has ceased, he will explain why the Treasury still insist on receiving £2,000 out of the pupils' fees.

(Answered by Mr. Victor Cavendish.) I understand that, of expenditure of £1,443 incurred for professors and teachers of special subjects in 1873–4, £300 is still paid for special teachers, and £300 more is paid in the consolidated salaries of existing model school teachers. The arrangement as to the £2,000 was part of a bargain made in 1875 which was entirely favourable to the teachers.
