§ MR. J. P. FARRELLI beg to ask the Postmaster-General if he will state the reason which induced him to transfer a clerk in the Blackpool Post Office to the charge of a post office m Ireland; and whether, as in these cases the rule was to advance local officials of proved service and ability, he will state on what grounds this rule is being now abrogated.
LORD STANLEYNo clerk has been transferred from Blackpool to the charge of an office in Ireland; but if the lion. Member refers to the Postmaster of Arklow, who was an officer in the Hartlepool Office, I may say that I considered him the most suitable of the candidates who applied for the appointment. There is no such rule as that to which the hon. Member refers.
