HC Deb 03 March 1905 vol 142 c323
MR. CHARLES HOBHOUSE

To ask the Secretary of State for War what will be the proportion of guns to sabres and bayonets when the new order for artillery is completed; and what will be the relative proportions in the British, French, and German armies.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Arnold-Forster.) The proportion of field guns to sabres and bayonets in the British Field Army will be 1 to 220. In France the proportion is 1 to 346. In Germany the present proportion is 1 to 180, but it is not possible to say what the proportion will be when the German army is provided with the new quick-firing gun.
