§ MR. COGAN (Wicklow, E.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Wicklow County Council, the Wicklow Urban Council, the Bray Urban Council, and the Rathdrum Rural District Council passed resolutions disapproving of the Public Bodies Order, 1904, and alleging that many of the provisions of the Order are in excess of the powers conferred by statute upon the Local Government Board arid lead to unnecessary complication and expense, and asking to have the Orders withdrawn or suitably modified so as to avoid friction and unnecessary expenditure; and, if so, whether, under these circumstances, he will have the Order withdrawn.
§ MR. ATKINSON (for Mr. WYNDHAM)The resolution has been received. The Local Government Board has been advised that all the provisions of the 192 Order are intra vires. With regard to the remainder of the Question, I refer to the replies given by my right hon. friend, on the 16th †and 22nd ‡ February, to the similar inquiries addressed to him by the hon. Members for West Wicklow and North Kilkenny. It is not proposed to withdraw the Order.
§ MR. COGANIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the county councils of Ireland have refused to obey these Orders? What action do the Local Government Board intend to take on the matter?
