MR. CULLINAN (Tipperary, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he is now in a position to state whether the Estates Commissioners are willing to compensate in cash or by procuring other holdings the † See (4) Debates, cxli., 1334. occupants of evicted farms who are willing under those conditions to surrender them, with the object of allowing the original tenants back into their old homes.

I beg to refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply given by my right hon. friend on August 13th † last to a Question put to him on this subject by the hon. Member for South Kildare. I am not at present in a position to make any further statement in the matter.

This a very important question. When will the right hon. Gentleman be able to give an Answer?

MR. ATKINSON

I cannot fix a definite day.

MR. KILBRIDE

I never got any such reply as suggested from the Chief Secretary.

MR. ATKINSON

I will inquire into that.
