HC Deb 29 June 1905 vol 148 cc538-9
MR. TENNANT

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to a strike among the women employed by Messrs. Hibbert and Company, of Slickett's Hill, Chatham, owing to the pay received by them for the making of haversacks; whether this work, which was paid for by Messrs. Hibbert at the rate of 1s. 3d. a dozen, is similar to that for which 5s. is paid at the Pimlico Army Clothing Factory; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Arnold-Forster.) I have been informed of the strike mentioned, which is now over. No work on haversacks is performed at the Pimlico Clothing Factory, and, therefore, no comparison in prices can be made.
