HC Deb 29 June 1905 vol 148 cc544-5
MR. LABOUCHERE

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he will consider the advisability of adding General Sir William Butler to the Commissioners appointed to investigate the sale of stores and refunds in South Africa, in view of the fact that, as the Chairman of a Departmental Committee which has partially investigated some of them, he already has acquired considerable knowledge in regard to them.

THE PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR,) Manchester, E.

Sir William Butler will in all probability be called as a witness by the Commission that has been appointed, but I do not think anything would be gained by adding him to the Commission. In fact, the terms of reference almost seem to exclude him.
