HC Deb 27 June 1905 vol 148 cc255-6
MR. SCOTT-MONTAGU (Hampshire,) New Forest

Will the Chancellor of the Exchequer lay on the Table a Memorandum explanatory of the Revenue Bill, as was done by the late Chancellor of the Exchequer in the case or the Bill of 1903?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

I think it would be for the convenience of the House that I should lay on the Table a memorandum explanatory of the Revenue Bill. The Bill in the main is composed of clauses to carry out the recommendations of the Committee which sat to inquire into the use of industrial alchol. The other clauses are entirely concerned with the concessions which the Revenue has been asked to make in the interests of justice or convenience to various classes.

MR. LOUGH (Islington, W.)

Will the clause about chicory be explained?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

Yes.

MR. FLAVIN (Kerry, N.)

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell us what is industrial alcohol?

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

If the hon. Member will read the Bill he will ascertain exactly.
